L'Oiseau Bleu (meaning "The Blue Bird" in English) is a play by Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. It was first performed in 1908 and is an allegorical fairy tale that tells the story of two impoverished siblings, Tyltyl and Mytyl, who are given a magical bird named L'Oiseau Bleu to search for the secret of happiness. Along the way, they encounter characters such as Bread, Sugar, Fire, and Light, who each contribute their own insights into what makes life worth living. Despite its initial lukewarm reception, L'Oiseau Bleu went on to become one of Maeterlinck's most famous works, and it has been adapted into numerous films, plays, and operas.
